Vaidhyanathan (2018) discussed three main perils that Facebook surveillance cause to the populace. Political groups and governments would be able to have access to personal data of Facebook users and surveil those individuals. Commercialization can also track users interests to provide products that match with what they like. Facebook itself, also, can benefit through other web browsers that collect huge amounts of personal data.

Furthermore, Palestinian women and girls have limited freedom of expression due to their parents or relatives’ surveillance that they describe them as “surveillance towers” in which they refrain from posting or sharing specific posts due to unwanted comments from their parents or relatives who constantly monitor their accounts. They also do not share political opinions or issues for reasons of fear from being persecuted by the Israelis as the latter perform acts of surveillance.
