In-class exercise 2

The news cannot be unltimately objective and there must be some kinds of biases in the process of producing news, according to Johnson(2016).

One of these biases is bias by placement and headline. For example, according to a news article produced by BBC regarding the coronavirus outbreak, a strike in Hong Kong was held to demand closure of China’s borders. The article was given a proper title and put on the front.

However, an article about the same topic at Al Jazeera did not emphasize on the event, it was not mentioned in the title nor the lead, rather, it was given a small paragraph after mentioning several other information.

Other news websites like GCTN did not have an article about this event till the moment which could be categorized as a bias by ommission.
